How we conduct website usability research

One on One Usability Interviews

This is the core usability methodology. A respondent and moderator sit together at a computer for a structured 60 minute interview while clients observer through a one way mirror.

The interview combines unstructured site exploration, structured tasks (e.g., making a purchase, signing up for a newsletter, finding product literature), and interaction with specific site elements (e.g., icons, menus, multimedia content, etc.).

Online Usability Interviews

In some cases the Usability Interview can be conducted online rather than in-person. The online methodology has several advantages. It lowers the overall cost of the project (saves on travel and facility costs), allows clients from any location to view the interviews either in real-time or offline, and it allows you to recruit participants from anywhere in the world.

Eye Tracking

Advanced Eye Tracking technology tracks your visitor's eye movements across the page. Eye-Tracking documents where visitors look on the page, in what order they go through the page's content, how long they spend on each element of the page, and much more. This data can help you achieve the optimal arrangement of elements on the page.

Website Development Focus Groups

In some cases, it is useful to gather a group of respondents to provide feedback on the site. Focus groups are typically not a good medium for testing a site's usability, but they can be very useful to understand how visitors will respond to the site's overall imagery, content and layout. The rich dynamics of a group can also be helpful in evaluating new site concepts or design elements.

Quantitative Usability Surveys

A quantitative usability study is appropriate when you need a statistically reliable sample size to choose between different approaches to layout, content or design. It is also excellent to determine if the site is equally appealing to all segments of the site's audience. Online surveys can have respondents view different areas of the site, rate and compare multi-media site elements, or even have them browse the site from within the survey itself.

International Market Research

It's a global market. We conduct qualitative and quantitative usability research around the world.
